People can begin to see the size of the turing circle planned for the intersection of Astraway and Missouri State Highway.

The City of Arnold decided to build a turning circle, or roundabout, to improve traffic flow and reduce vehicle wrecks at the entrace to the Arnold Recreation Center, the Jefferson County Library's Arnold Branch and Jefferson College.

Contractors closed the section on June 18 to begin 95 days of work on three road projects, Public Works Director Bryson Baker said in a meeting on June 18 at the Arnold Recreation Center.

A new roundabout will be installed for the Astra Way Drive intersection with Missouri State Road; the pavement along Astra Way Drive will be improved between Hwy. 141 and Missouri State Road; and at the intersection of Astra Way and Hwy. 141 the traffic signals will be improved, the median will be removed, and new turning lanes will be installed.

People with questions about the project should call 636-282-6650.

If you want to see the difference between a traffic circle, a rotary (UK roundabout) and a modern roundabout, search www.k-state.edu to see pictures. The FHWA has a video about modern roundabouts that is mostly accurate (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhHzly_6lWM ).
