China Wok: High Ridge’s Chinese Connection
Have a yen for Chinese food in High Ridge? Check out China Wok where food is tasty and take out is fast.
Chinese cuisine is closer to High Ridge than one might expect thanks to China Wok, located at the intersection of Highway 30 west and High Ridge Boulevard. China Wok’s official address is 1009 Crossroads Place, and it is housed in an unassuming strip center facing Highway 30.
Cantonese, Hunan and America-Chinese dominate the menu and include the mandatory must haves - General Tso’s Chicken, Egg Foo Young and Chow Mein. Yet, beyond these Chinese classics are several surpises. There are five styles of Moo Shu with Mandarin pancakes, a Chinese gourmet specialty not often found on menus. Mei Fun is another unexpected item. Mei Fun is a noodle dish similar to Lo Mein but made with thin rice noodles instead of the heavier textured egg noodle.
Triple Delight is an interesting dish listed as a diet option. Here steamed versus stir-fried rice is in a combination of chicken, beef and shrimp with sauce served on the side. Those wanting traditional full-flavored dishes may consider the Hot & Spicy Beef, Shrimp with Lobster Sauce or the Orange Chicken. Or for those fans of Sweet & Sour who are always torn on what to order, China Wok has the solution, the Sweet & Sour Combo, a melange of chicken, shrimp and pork.
Most orders are take-out and filled in 15 minutes or less. Few elect to eat-in China Wok’s small dining area, which is in need of updating.
Prices are inexpensive. Ranging from $4.15 for a small order of Sweet and Sour Pork to $9.95 for General Tao Chicken and Shrimp duo. Plated combos feature an entrée, pork fried rice and egg roll with an average cost of $6.95. Best buys are the family dinners, starting at $19 for meals packaged with appetizers, entrees, soup and fried rice.
