Several fire departments responded to a blaze in a wooded area early Friday morning between Schneider Drive and Romaine Creek Road, according to our partners at Fox 2.
Saline Valley Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Bill Modrosic told Patch his department had received calls throughout the evening about smoke in the area, but were unable to find the fire.
"We were finally able to see the fire off Highway 141 and Schneider about 12:30 a.m., and that's when we called in other departments," Modrosic said.
Firefighters from five additional departments responded to the first alarm fire. Those departments included the Rock Community Fire Protection District and the Fenton, Antonia, High Ridge and Cedar Hill fire departments.
Because the fire was in a valley, crews had to leave their trucks and fight the flames on foot, Fox 2 reports.
Modrosic told Patch it took about three hours to control the blaze. He said no one was injured in the incident, and the cause of the fire hasn't been determined.
