Fox School District Implements New Safety Procedures

In light of the tragedy in Newtown, CT, Fox school officials have decided to lock all exterior doors at every school until a more permanent solution is implemented.

Friday's mass shooting of 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT, has prompted the Fox School District to implement a new safety measure.

All exterior doors, including the main entrances at each school, will be locked at all times. Anyone who needs to visit a school for any reason will need to call the school beforehand and a staff member will let them in. All visitors be asked for identification.

"We will continue this practice until each school has an alert or buzzer system in place," Superintendent Dianne Critchlow said in her daily update on the district's website.

Critchlow said district officials are meeting with the Arnold Police Department on Tuesday to further discussions about student safety. She said many parents have submitted ideas and concerns - gestures which are "greatly appreciated."

If you would like to submit an idea or concern, you can email Critchlow at critchlow@fox.k12.mo.us, or Paul Burth, the district's safety director at burchp@fox.k12.mo.us.

"As we move forward this week, our counselors and staff members will continue to be available to support students," Critchlow said in her update. "It is important that our students feel safe at school so they can continue to learn and grow academically and socially."
