Freshman Football Player at Seckman High School Dies

Jacob Siebert died early this morning, according Fox School District officials. Students and staff at the school are grieving his loss.

A 14-year-old freshman at Seckman High School died early this morning, said Dianne Critchlow, superintendent of the Fox School District.

Jacob Siebert was on the school's football and lacrosse teams, Critchlow said. District officials received a call this morning from a relative of the student confirming he had passed away.

"We're not sure what happened," Critchlow said. "He never reported any injuries to his coaches. He was well liked by everyone, and he loved football and lacrosse. It's such a tragedy when a child passes away."

Critchlow told Patch members of the high school football team were informed of the death this morning, while the rest of the student body was notified around noon. A crisis team consisting of grief counselors was sent to the school to help students and staff deal with the news.

There will be a moment of silence honoring Jacob before tomorrow night's football game between Fox and Seckman, Critchlow said. The district playoff game begins at 7 p.m. at Fox High School.
