The 800 Pound Gorilla: What Business . . . Should Go Into the Former Kmart Store?

There's a lot of space in the Arnold Crossroads mall, especially after Kmart closed shop a few years ago.

Time to tackle the big issue that Arnold City Hall wants to solve. And maybe readers will have a few new ideas to help the city.

After Kmart left 237 Arnold Crossroads Center a few years ago, the business abandoned about 84,000 square feet of space in a commercially zoned area.

The building is near the Drury Inn hotel, 24 Hour Fitness, Terrazza Grill, several fast-food restaurants and, coming soon, a CVS Pharmacy.

The building is near Hwy. 141 and Jeffco Boulevard and easily seen from Interstate 55.

Before suggesting a new business for the building, readers will need to determine whether one business or several businesses should occupy the building.

Arnold needs a good putt putt golf course for family recreation. I'm tired of traveling outside of Jefferson County to play on outdated, over priced courses at least 15 minutes away. Arnold Commons needs a family gathering place surrounded by hotels and restaurants - perfect fit.

I think it would be an ideal spot for the Arnold Post Office. Unlike the Post Office's current location, there would be lots of room for parking, easy in and easy out. .

I agree with Sheila the parking at the current Post Office isn't the greatest.

The building should probably be razed because 84,000 is a lot of sq.ft. for 1 business and to big of an area for the post office. This way there would be a better chance for several business' to occupy the area and also would improve the curb appeal in the area.

I would like to see an alternative grocery store, such as a Whole Foods or a Trader Joe's. Whole foods carries the best quality produce in the area, but I have to drive up to Brentwood to go there. Trader joe's also carries many great products, superior to Dierberg's and definitely Walmart. These stores carry healthy alternatives. I am tired fol Arnold being a "fast food haven". Getting a major store like this could actually help change that culture.

I know this is a little late but I think a convention center would do Arnold some good. This location could be ideal since there is a hotel and plenty of dining.
