Low rainfall and water levels in the Meramec River have allowed drivers to see the river's sandbar on July 5, 2012.

The Meramec River's sand bar, near Arnold City Park, is easily visible due to the low water levels.

The National Weather Service says the river's water level is at about 5.7-feet deep as of Friday at 2 a.m.

A little more than year ago, the NWS said the river crested at 35.5-feet, which is about 11 feet higher than flood stage.

In 2011, heavy snow fall and abundant rains filled the river, and closed Arnold City Park in April and May.
