There's vacant space next to bed and bedroom retailer STL Beds on Jeffco.

At one point, Arnold Jeffco Boulevard was a prime location for retailers.

Then came the highways, the shopping malls and a faster more convenient lifestyle. Businesses needed retail space that is easily seen and acessed by drivers moving at 65 mph.

Eventually businesses moved from Jeffco Boulevard and left some low cost commercial retail real estate.

So what would be a good business to pleace on 1356 Jeffco Blvd.?

STL Beds, a bed and bedroom furniture seller, is the next door neighbor. Also there are two tax advisors and a tee-shirt logo maker nearby.

Arnold will need to find a business that will draw traffic a little further away from Interstate 55.

Arnold needs stores that bring in out of county $$. So, maybe an Apple store, Penny's Spices, a Bridal store, etc. etc.

I like the idea of an Apple Store - that would probably pull in money from out of state and attract a few college-bound students into the area. When I lived in Kentucky, I needed to travel to St. Louis or Nashville to get my laptop repaired or upgraded.

My family owns STL Beds which is located in the space to the right of the empty store front since 1993. It really is a prime location. There is a busy Dobbs Tire and Auto to the building's left where customers often have to wait for service to be completed on their vehicals. The location gets a lot of drive by traffic and has good visibility. Personally I think it is more convenient than the new strip malls. It’s not buried among high rent stores that must cover their overhead and charge their customers the ridiculous .0935 sales tax rate most of those shopping malls are having to collect.
Maybe I am just hungry at the moment but donuts, baked goods, and coffee could be a good fit. Love the bridal shop idea. Perhaps another aggressive niche type business could really thrive in this location. Former businesses that were located in the spot included Hogenmiller Appliance for over 30 years. The family retired and sold the once thriving business. Playmakers and Baseball Card Dugout filled ½ of the old appliance store. The location has approx. 1000 square foot up stairs and another 1000 downstairs. STL Beds took over the other ½ of the location approximately 10 years ago. Perhaps we should expand into more home furnishings… Thanks for the write up. Doug Belleville

Thanks Doug! The idea of a baker sounds great albeit a little dangerous for you!
