Last night was a perfect example of stopping a political agenda pushed by Bob Boyer and company. If you'll go back and recall the Republican Caucus in March, it was the same scenario. Bob Boyer was the head of the Libertarian snake (and I'm not talking about the Gadsen snake. This is more in line with a Copperhead). Matt Hay, Doris Borgelt and numerous others were the body of the snake. Last night, we had a few others join in to try again to take over the Republican party and change the very fabric. The others that tried hard were Ken Horton, the Hohmeiers and Richard Blowers.
During this debacle there were heroes. The first was Gail Shorney. Mrs. Shorney spoke of a letter that was sent to the council members last week. It was a clear threat to all council members that if they did not "obey" the Jeffco Tea Party, they would be run out of office. Mrs. Shorney brought up great points. She was correct that threats, letters of intimidation or bullying tactics do not and should not convince elected officials or county residents to vote in a certain way or accept a candidate because they are part of a group that has been taken over by a tyrannical bunch of people that feel they must shove their ideals down our throats.
I have to say that I wanted to laugh out loud when Ken Horton talked about the council members being wrapped in the Tea Party's flag during their election into office two years ago. Really, Ken, where were you? I am on the Central Committee and no one from the Tea Party walked with US when we were walking from door to door getting these people elected. No one called me or anyone on the Central Committee to help get them interviews or their pictures in the local papers. So you lie when you say that. They got themselves elected with NO help from any Tea Party, least of all the one you proclaimed to be leader of. In fact, most of them got elected on a shoestring budget without the monetary help of ANY party and I know that for a fact because I was on every committee including the Inauguration Committee. Where was the great Jeffco Tea Party on that night? I don't recall Kellye Pratt, Ken Horton, Matt Hay or anyone else in the Tea Party that had their mouths open last night stepping up to help with any preparations before the Inauguration or to assist on the night of the Inauguration so don't talk about wrapping people in flags because you and your Tea Party members have done NOTHING! By the way, Ken, where are those detailed accounting sheets and general ledgers? I'd like to know and I'm sure the IRS would like to know as well.
Steve Farmer was the other hero of the night. He spoke of how he was withdrawing as leader of the Jeffco Tea Party. He spoke eloquently of the true meaning of being an American citizen. He pointed out that this was definitely done to grandstand during an election year. He also noted that people are partisan by nature and jamming your ideals at them will not change that.
There were others who spoke up against these atrocious pieces of election-year propaganda and this blogger thanks them. As far as the Jeffco Tea Party is concerned, they are a dying breed because they now have a corrupt system of leaders and if you donate (they pass the hat on meeting night), you have no idea where your money goes - that sounds familiar to the Obama administration.
Finally, thank you to most of the council members for voting against the bills. You are wise to follow your ethics and principles, not threats, intimidation and bullying. That is what being a leader is all about.

I agree with several points in Linda Van de Riet's post on the Arnold Patch. While she was mistaken that I was as at the meeting last night, I do deserve a negative call out. Both of us are passionate about our views, and I sometimes respond before I Stop-Think-Act. I talk of coming together for we all are in the same fight, yet have knee-jerk reactions before checking out whole story. When doing so, I am not clear in the point I am trying to make for the emotions get in the way.
I responded to a post on FB made by a mutual connection, which was about another article she wrote. Since I was not privy to a physical threat, nor was the email posted, I was irritated for I thought this was an emotional 'news' piece that offered no evidence. I walk it back.
We should not fall into the trap of it's "my way or the highway" and I am sickened that a fellow conservative threatened her for speaking her mind. Do we not complain how hypocritical each side has gotten? I feel we have become so angry at all that is going on, and so helpless, that we lash out at the first person who crosses our path.
Linda, I posted this publicly on my FB Wall. I respect your views, and know you speak from truth. We are on the same page.

As far as the criticism towards JCTP, especially the "passing of the hat," at anytime any member wants to see the finances, please let us know.
Also, feel free to speak up at the public meetings of your concerns, or meet with the Steering Committee. Our intent is not to hide anything, and be transparent.
Finally, as you know as well, our SC is going thru changes due to leaders/members of the SC resigning due to the elections. It is my wish that we make the JCTP a huge respected, professional organization that many are happy to be a part of, whereby they are informed, motivated and empowered. That is/was Steve's intent when he became Acting President, and we strive to stay true to that mission.

OK, please point out where there was any threat made!!!! I think categorizing this letter or Mr. Horton's email as a threat is blatant over-dramatization.

First off, the event was not private, not by-invitation-only, and there were was nobody checking i.d.s at the door. I was there. If this was an exclusive event, he should have had some on 'manning' the door.
I would take this as a threat: "If you plan on ignoring my request and show up any way, I will have you escorted from the premises which will be very embarrassing for you. " That is a threat, and would also be embarrassing for Mr. Horton, if this transpired. Anyway, I believe Mr. Horton could have risen above the emotion since he is running for office.
Finally, what you or others may not deem as threatening, to someone else it can be.
I also believe we all need to get past the divisiveness and move on.

Well, if you can perceive it as a threat, both of you go can through life being scared by your own shadow, it makes no difference to me! Sensationalizing and drama seem to be all the rage in Linda's world. I see it as he gave her a head's up, he uninvited her, plain and simple. He stated he was personally sponsoring and paying for the event. Is this not true, Kelly? Did you bother to check with Ken regarding this?
I was there too, I was invited and yes there were people "watching" the door. I even asked after Ms. Van de Reit and was told that she had been uninvited amid many chuckles and then was shown a screen display which contained the message below. Here is the body of the email:
Linda,
Since the June 10th rally is an event I am personally sponsoring and paying for, I am asking that you not plan on attending. If you plan on ignoring my request and show up any way, I will have you escorted from the premises which will be very embarrassing for you. You may want to re-think gutter sniping tactics.
Ken Horton
Seems like a clear message to me and not a threat in any way, shape or form, but then again, I'm a grown-up!

Hi, Doris- It seems you are impassioned as well. We all have our perceptions and opinions. It is sad when we include personal insults and deragatory conments. From either side.
I do not know you personally, and refuse to make assumptions about your character. My comments were not about you, but it was my confession that I allowed myself to have a knee-jerk reaction with Linda which I apologize for.
I am sure that 'agreeing to disagree is the grown-up thing to do.'
Anyway, I got the email, and did not read anywhere that it was private. I signed in, yes, and did not see any bouncers lurking around. I did not see a reason to askKen - good thing I did not bring a friend! I did not eat anything, so my cost was minimal. LOL
Anyway, as I stated before, "Do we not complain how hypocritical each side has gotten? I feel we have become so angry at all that is going on, and so helpless, that we lash out at the first person who crosses our path. "
Have a blessed day, and may we work together to bring back a strong community, State and Country!

Kelly:
Thanks for your great words - they are welcomed and I appreciate them. I agree that we must all work together, but we must also point out those that will try to intimidate, threaten and bully us into accepting their ideals as I've said before.
The only reason why I would have went to Horton's "coming out" party and I hear you had to pay for food, etc. so it wasn't much of a party. The only reason why I would have went was to see Ed Martin speak and to ask Mr. Horton about the Jeffco Tea Party balance sheets and general ledger sheets that I as a contributor and member of the Tea Party have never seen. Mr. Horton is running on transparency. It is concerning as a resident of Jefferson County that a person running for Treasurer of the County cannot even show us, as Tea Party members, the balance sheets and the proof of where our donations went for the last 3 or 4 years.
Also, I've showed Mr. Horton's email to many people and asked if they consider it a threat and they do. This is far from what we want in our elected officials. Anyone that is afraid to face a tax paying resident of the County and has to pick her out, write her emails and threaten her because he is afraid to be accountable is not the right candidate for Jefferson County much less as Treasurer.
As far as Doris, I do pray for her, she is very angry about anything truthful and that is clearly evident when you read any of her posts. I don't get angry at her, instead, I pity her.
Doris Borgelt

I was just alerted to this post by Doris a few hours ago and find it amusing to say the least. If you know anything about Linda Van De Riet, the first thing you feel is pity. All one can do is say a prayer for someone who gets up each morning filled with nothing but hate and discontent and spews one lie after another all in a vein effort to to try and make herself feel important. My first reaction is not to respond to gutter snipes like her, but since she is bringing up financial issues regarding Tea Party funds during the two years I served as President, I offer her the following challenge.
I will take all financial statements from 2010 to 2012 to an independent accountant for review. If they find that I did anything unlawful or deceitful I will make a $1,000 donation to any campaign of her choice. If they find all books in order, she has to make a $1,000 donation to my campaign for County Treasurer. Offer is on the table Linda. Either put up or shut up!
Linda Van de Riet
8:25 pm on Wednesday, June 27, 2012
Ken Horton:
Again, you want to shut me up. What is it with you and Boyer constantly telling residents, constituents and fellow Council Members to shut up? You really can't stand the truth, can you? As requested in my email directly to you, show me the balance sheet and general ledger, show me where my donations went. I don't care about accountants, I want to see for myself.
You are a bully and that has been proven with your email. The residents of Jefferson County have been alerted to your bully tactics. Are you, as Treasurer, going to threaten every taxpayer that questions how their money is being used?
Let's scrutinize the issue that started all this. To begin with, I pointed out that you along with others, did not feel it was important enough to attend the State Convention as a delegate. You, a candidate of Jefferson County wanting to be elected as Treasurer feel that to stand up for America as a delegate is so inconsequential that you don't even show up for such an important duty. If you felt that America is not that important, why include yourself on the slate of delegates? If that great honor is not important to you, than being a representative of Jefferson County is even less important.
I am glad that Trena Waller is running against you for Treasurer, it gives Republicans another candidate to vote for and I'll bet she wouldn't threaten anyone!
Ken Horton
9:06 pm on Wednesday, June 27, 2012
Again, I want you to put your money where your mouth is. A simple yes I accept, or no will be sufficient. Which is it?
Linda Van de Riet
9:50 am on Thursday, June 28, 2012
Mr. Horton:
Again, you seem to ignore the point I am making. As a member and a contributor, I should not have to offer any amount of money to see the balance sheets or general ledger of a not for profit organization such as the Jefferson County Tea Party. As Treasurer of Jefferson County, are you going to make Jefferson County taxpayers pay $1,000 to find out what their taxes are being used for? You, as the leader of the Jeffco Tea Party should have been forthright with these documents at every meeting. A true Conservative, Constitutional Republican candidate would know that is the right thing to do. The people's money whether it be a dollar contributed to the Jeffco Tea Party or thousands given in taxes is important and people such as myself work hard for it and no elected official has that right to barter with our money or intimidate us or "make deals" in order to obtain proof of how our money is being used.
So, Mr. Horton, you have validated my point all along. You are not a transparent, true Conservative that will run as a Constitutional candidate. You are really a Democrat that tries to get what you can out of a taxpaying Jefferson County resident.
Thank you for clarifying that to all the people in Jefferson County that were unaware of that fact.

I am going to point out some facts here. Mr. Horton stepped down from the JCTP as leader and member of the Steering Committee. Mr. Farmer has also stepped down due to people's perceptions of conflict of interests. To clarify, Mr. Farmer was an Acting President. Mr. Frank Lefler is now Acting President.
Since this concerns the JCTP monies, even though Mr. Horton was Leader for 2010-2011, this 'bet' should have never been made. As a member of the SC, I NOT have received a phone call or email concerning even entertaining such an action. Please refrain from any personal attacks and/or arguments. I will take this offline with Mr. Lefler and the other SC members of the JCTP..
Thank you.

Mr. Farmer should not have stepped down due to "people's perceptions of conflict of interests" he should have stepped down because it was the right and proper thing to do. If Steve did not inherently know this, he was not the leader I had hoped he would be. I am very concerned that "Tea Party Values" have been exchanged for "Republican Central Cmte Concessions." To hear Steve make an argument Monday evening that Jefferson supported a 2 party system, and that a 2 party system was the intent of the Founder's was embarrassing. In fact, I was embarrassed for him. He obviously knows little about history, or he knows what he was saying was factually inaccurate and has no issue with being a revisionist.
So many so called "Tea Partiers", however, none of them seem know, much less embrace, what values JCTP was founded upon. I have kept a low profile hoping that these faux "Tea Partiers" would sort themselves out, or at least hoping folks would come to their senses. The JCTP is a private organization, not a public one. Their is no requirement they open their books to anyone. They file any and all required disclosures and paperwork with the relevant agencies, and that is all they are required to do.
And Linda, if you are a "Tea Partier" in anything other than your own mind, I am the Sultan of Abu Dhabi.

Mr. Horton:
When a candidate knows his campaign is at an end and he's desperate, it is interesting how he attacks anyone that points out the truth about him.
I have documents to prove what I have to say, do you?
Now, since you're unemployable as the Jefferson County Treasurer because of your intimidation tactics and proof that you'll roll in the mud through untrue attacks on the residents of Jefferson County, are you trying to get a job as the Director of HR?
Your desperation tactics are noticeable and sad! I pity you just like your friend Doris.

So, this was the letter that was a "threat?" You have to be kidding me......seriously, this is what Gail Shoney, Fran Newkirk, and Janet "The Revisionist History Teacher" Engelbach were referring to? Seriously? I would not even call this strongly worded, and in fact seems to choose the passive tense to purposely avoid being stronger. I guess you have never seen an NRA Letter about a scored vote, have you? Jefferson County Council is becoming almost as big a farce as the Arnold City Government. It is actions like this refusal to allow the people a voice that just smacks of arrogance. Chuck Banks already said "Told you so" about the County Republicans being just as corrupt and daft as the County Dems. Sadly, this is one thing he was correct about. If that was not reinforced enough at the Caucus, the contempt for the people of this County was further driven home by the actions of a majority of the Council.

Oh for the love of...
Matt-
1. What you and others perceive to be a threat or not, is different than what others perceptions are. It is based on our personal experiences. It is unique to each person. This is an emotional response.
2. Fact: As you know, Steve DID publicly resign as Acting President. However none of us on the SC could/wanted to take his place. At the time, Mr. Lefler did not want to do it, and we were needing more SC members.
The SC unanimously voted for him to stay on because we had a lot of things coming up.
3. Fact: Before the SC mtg when that was done, we had already been discussing about needing Mr. Farmer to stay on. He was reluctant, because he was not sure if it would be a conflict of interests, and if it would 'the right thing to do' to stay on. We asked Mr. Farmer to check with officials to see if it was a conflict of interests for him to lead the JCTP while campaigning for he did not want to do anything that would mar the JCTP. It was not, the vote was taken, and he stayed on.
Kelly
9:22 pm on Sunday, July 1, 2012
4. Fact: Mr. Horton (former JCTP President and SC member) came to the June SC mtg and asked for a letter be sent to the JCC stating the JCTP opposed the amendments. The letter was to be written by Mr. Horton and another SC member.
The SC approved for it to be written, but not sent until we read it and a majority approved it, and that we were given a copy of the amendment to review before we took a stand as a group against it. It was to be non-threatening, professional and written on JCTP letterhead.
As it turned out, the draft letter was presented to the SC by email, but the writer stated if we did not respond within a certain amount of time, silence meant consent because of the JCC meeting coming up.
It ended up being emailed to all Council members without majority approval. Mr. Farmer who was still our Acting President at that time was NOT the one who sent the email.
Mr. Farmer then sent an email to the JCC on behalf of the JCTP SC apologizing for what was done, and how it was written. Personally, I believe that was the right thing to do.
Kelly
9:23 pm on Sunday, July 1, 2012
5. Fact: Mr. Farmer was accused by some outside of the SC of throwing the SC under the bus by sending the letter of apology. They were critical of the fact that as an individual he did not approve of the amendments. Some also started to insinuate that he was being unethical by remaining as the leader of the JCTP, without knowing the SC actually voted for him to stay on longer.
6. Fact: Based on this, and not wanting the JCTP be caught up in all this political drama, he resigned again. Mr. Lefler reluctantly agreed to take over as Acting President. The official hand-off will occur next SC meeting.
7. Fact: As far as the JCTP being a private organization, not needing to be accountable to the public, that flies in the face of what the JCTP is about. Furthermore, there is no official membership, we don't force dues even from the SC members. We are not the Obama Administration -we believe in transparency and integrity.
8. Fact: Mr. Horton, voluntarily resigned as Leader of the JCTP, and as a member of the SC. We did not think he needed to, but Mr. Farmer was able and qualified to take over. He was to be 'Acting' President until Mr. Horton officially changed over legal documents and had an audit done on the books. Mr. Farmer was still Acting President when he stepped down last week, and now Mr. Lefler is Acting President.
Kelly
9:24 pm on Sunday, July 1, 2012
9. Fact: It is unethical for Mr. Horton to make a 'bet' on the behalf of anything concerning the JCTP without the involvement of the JCTP SC. It may be legal, but is 'not the right thing to do.'
10. Fact: The JCTP's core beliefs are for a Constitutionally Limited Government, Fiscal Responsibility and Free Markets. If people wish to consider themselves a member, all we ask is for them to hold the same core values. You can consider yourself an I, R, L, CP or even a Democrat. I have even known of Wicca conservative TPers. Obviously, in such diversity, there are grey areas. JCTP's mission is not to be a fundamentalist organization, taking an elitist approach, insisting each thinks and believes the same thing as its leaders. We believe in individual rights, and we desire to inform, engage and empower people so they will fight for what they believe in, just as you are.

I witnessed while I worked at the MO Rally for Common Sense, conservatives across the board looking past each others differences, and banding together to stop this Obama-nation from utterly destroying the liberties and freedoms of each individual in our Country.
Continuing to engage in infighting, emotional diatribes and pissing-matches really gets us nowhere. If we keep losing focus on the real ''enemy' of our Republic, from bottom to the top, then all will be lost. And the Progressives will be laughing as they rebuild this Country into a nightmare of socialism.
