Maintenance crews continue to patch potholes throughout the region on state roadways as part of the department’s Pothole Patrol. People can call 1-888-ASK-MODOT to report a pothole on any state-owned road or interstate and the department will patch that pothole by the same time the next weekday. The Missouri Department of Transportation will suspend all downtown work this weekend but some lanes will be closed in South and West counties.  All scheduled work zones will resume on Monday. Missouri Department of Transportation crews will stop road work at noon today, to allow for the high number of holiday travelers expected during the Labor Day Holiday. Work will resume at 9 a.m. Tuesday, MoDOT said in a news release. Drivers along Richardson Road east of Interstate 55 will need to slow down because contractors have begun work to repave the surface.  Crews closed right westbound lane along Richardson Road and used a backhoe to break road surface on Thursday. Workers also shifted westbound traffic into the center left turn lane, bordered by yellow lane lines, between Jeffco Boulevard and the Sonic drive-in restaurant.  Businesses along the repair zone will remain open and are accessible from Richardson Road. Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) crews will repair the asphalt pavement on Route Z and the Interstate 55 interchange Friday at 7 p.m. Crews will close lanes on Route Z near Pevely on Friday evening until noon on Saturday. Crews will also close the following I-55 ramps during this timeframe, MoDOT said in a news release. The Missouri Department of Transportation closed two left southbound lanes on Interstate 270 near Interstate 44 to allow crews to continue bridge repairs this weekend. All lanes will reopen on Monday by 5 a.m., MoDOT said. The suggested detours are Hwy. 141 and Lindbergh Boulevard for southbound drivers, MoDOT said. On Monday, all southbound I-270 traffic will be on the two right lanes. MoDOT said the lanes will be narrowed to 11 feet. There will be a 45 mph speed limit in the work zone.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) contractors will close one lane on northbound and southbound Interstate 55 at the BNSF Railroad bridge in Festus at 6:30 p.m., weather permitting. Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) engineers noticed longer delays at the Interstate 270 and Interstate 44 interchange in South County since the I-270 bridge project began this summer. Since Saturday, engineers noticed a doubling of travel times along the I-44 exit ramps to southbound I-270 during the evening commute. Travel times begin to lengthen at 4 p.m.  The longer commute times last until about 6 p.m. The delay from eastbound I-44 to southbound I-270 delay is about twice as long, to 8-10 minutes from 4 minutes. The Missouri Department of Transportation will begin work on the Interstate 55 bridges over BNSF Railroad this week.  The project will build new northbound and southbound bridges on I-55 between Herculaneum and Festus, MoDOT said in a news release. MoDOT crews will close one lane in each direction on I-55 on Wednesday and Thursday night from 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., the next day. Crews will work during those hours. Two lanes on the interstate will remain open during daytime hours. MoDOT expects to complete the project by late 2012.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will post variable advisory speeds on Interstate 270 and Interstate 255 to warn drivers of slowed traffic on those highways. "Starting today, (July 5) the digital speed signs will display flashing advisory speeds whenever traffic ahead is slowed to between 55 mph and 10 mph," MoDOT Assistant District Engineer Tom Blair said.
