St. Louis Family Hosts Fundraiser to Help Adopted Son

Blair Family Races Towards Solution

St. Louis, MO—On Saturday, January 12, 2013, Jenny and Dennis Blair will host Team NOAH Dinner and Mouse Races Benefit at Andre’s West in Fenton, MO to help raise funds for a treatment program for their adopted son who is struggling with a variety of challenges. The event begins at 7 p.m.; a $25 ticket includes a full meal, open bar, access to auctions, raffles, mouse races, and more.  

The Arnold-based Blair family adopted nine year old Noah from Dnipropetrovs’k, Ukraine when he was two years old. He was born seven weeks premature, spent five months in a hospital, and then moved to an orphanage where he remained until his adoption. While in the orphanage, Noah was severely neglected, abused, and malnourished—conditions that greatly contributed to his already hard start in life.

“When I first saw Noah, I couldn’t believe the environment in which he was living,” said Jenny. “The staff referred to him as ‘trash’ when my husband and I expressed interest in adopting him. Their ‘trash’ has become our greatest treasure—one we are struggling to protect and keep safe.”

Noah is currently diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, complex learning and attention disorders, sensory integration disorder, brain damage and dysfunction, chronic psychiatric disorder, severe disruptive and behavioral disorder, insomnia, hyperactivity, fetal alcohol syndrome, and reactive attachment disorder. This long list of challenges makes it increasingly difficult for Noah to interact appropriately with his parents, sister, teachers, and classmates.

In 2012, the Blair family attended a seminar in Denver, Colorado called Beyond Consequences, featuring Dr. Ronald Federici. A developmental neuropsychologist, Dr. Federici is regarded as the country’s expert in the neuropsychological and evaluation and treatment of children having multi-sensory neurodevelopmental impairments. He has worked abroad in institutional settings for over a decade and leads a team in comprehensive evaluation and de-institutionalization programs. He speaks widely about the post-institutionalized child and is the clinic director and supervisor at his treatment center: Care for Children International. The Blair family will be attending his treatment program in January 2013—a program for which there is no insurance coverage.
