Ken Waller will seek re-election as County Executive instead of running for a state senate seat in 2014, he announced in a news release last week. Waller briefly considered a run for the 22nd District Senate seat, according to the news release. He was elected as the county's first the County Executive in 2010. “I definitely feel we’re better off now than when I started out my term – both fiscally and organizationally,” Waller told Leader Publications. He said he is making job creation and retention a priority. Small business incubation is one area of focus for Arnold City Council, which approved three new committees last week.
The new Arnold City Council signaled which topics deserve extra attention by creating three new committees last week. During Thursday's meeting, Mayor Ron Counts announced the creation of committees focused on city beautification, transportation and small business. They were created to address city challenges that the council couldn't get to otherwise, Counts said. For example, take the transportation committee. Council members Paul Freese (Ward 3) and Randy Crisler (Ward 1) will be leading that committee. "As our city has grown, transportation has become more and more of issue," Counts said. The Missouri House of Representitves—including Rep. John McCaherty of High Ridge—passed a bill this week that would put the concealed carry permitting process in the hands of county sheriffs' departments. Right now, the Missouri Department of Revenue is in charge of permits, issuing concealed weapons permits on an applicant's driver's licenses after a background check and a 45-day waiting period, according to OzarkFirst.com. McCaherty wants to keep the department out of the process so they won't end up accessing or sharing private information of Missouri gun permit holders. "Our sheriffs already take care of receiving applications, conducting background checks and issuing paper permits for concealed weapon holders," McCaherty wrote on his …
