Book Selections for National Read Across America Day

Here are some reading selections for adults and children. The following libraries and book retailers can offer a few alternatives and promising new books for your pleasure.

Jefferson County Library, Arnold Branch, 1701 Missouri State Rd., Arnold

Several members of this staff compiled a list of their personal suggestions. Check The Magician’s Elephant by Kate DiCamillo for kids. For adults try Time and Again by Jack Finney.

Jefferson County Library, Northwest Branch, 5680 State Rd. PP, High Ridge.

For kids, the branch manager always suggests Dr. Seuss books such as Green Eggs and Ham. For adults, she suggests The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin.

St. Louis County Library, Meramec Valley Branch, 625 New Smizer Mill Rd., Fenton.

Continuing the Dr. Seuss theme, it recommended Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are? For adults, a modern book was suggested, such as one by James Patterson.

Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 721 Gravois Rd., Fenton

The staff recommended for a teen or young adult Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. For adults, try The Help by Kathryn Stockett.

St. Louis County Library Headquarters, 1640 S. Lindbergh Blvd., Frontenac

These experts recommended The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein for adults and An Abundance of Katherines by John Green for kids in high school.

Pudd’nHead Books, 37 S. Old Orchard Ave., Webster Groves

The manager recommended her current favorite books. For kids, Ponyella by Laura Numeroff and A Discovery of Witches by Deborah E. Harkness for adults.
