700 Jefferson County Youth Get Free School Supplies, Health Care for School

The annual Jefferson County Health and Education Fair was earlier this month. Registration for the 2014 fair will open in January.

Registration opens up for the annual efferson County Health and Education Fair about eight months before the event even occurs. That's because there is such a need for support to ensure students are health and equipped with the right tools to head back to school.

This year, about 700 local children in need received a free backpacks, school supplies and health care at resource fair. About 486 children had free  dental screenings, 140 had free hearing screenings and 122 had free vision screenings.

The back to school event was held on Aug. 1 at the Jefferson College Field House in Hillsboro. Children were treated to free haircuts and lunch at the event, which has been going on for more than 20 years. This year, more than 35 vendors participated in the health fair portion of the event.
