Arnold Home Prices More Expensive than St. Louis City

University City is MIssouri's most expensive city to own a home, Kirksville is the state's most affordable market.

Arnold’s average home price is about $36,000 more than a comparable home in the City of St. Louis.

Coldwell Banker Real Estate provided the data, in a news release on Wednesday, that compared average home prices for a 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom home across the country. The company ranked 37 Missouri cities according to average home price.

In Arnold, the average price for 4-bedroom, 2-bath home is $228,338 while a similar home in  St. Louis city is $192,306.

Imperial's average home price is $236,256, or almost $8,000 more than in Arnold, for a comparable home, Coldwell Banker said. 

Arnold ranked 15 out of the 37 of the most expensive cities to own a home. Imperial ranked 14 most expensive Missouri city to own the described home. St. Louis city ranked 24as  most expensive city in Missouri.

University City was the most expensive city at with the average price at about $417,800. Kirksville, MO, which is about 200 miles northwest of St. Louis, had the least expensive, or 37 out of 37, with an average home price of about $125,000.

Missouri’s average price is $225,847 for a 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom home. The national average is $293,251 or about $68,000 more expensive than Missouri’s average price.

Coldwell Banker HLR said cities needed at least 10 properties that fit the described home and were listed on the real estate market between September 2010 and March 2011.

"This year’s home listing report is by far the most in-depth local market source of data that Coldwell Banker has ever released,” said Jim Gillespie, chief executive officer, Coldwell Banker Real Estate LLC. 

“We’ve included nearly ten times more markets than ever before,” Gillespie said.

He said there are 775 U.S. markets where the average home price is  $200,000 or less for the specified home.

Home buying, however, is a very personal decision, Gillespie said. 

The following table, provided by Coldwell Banker, lists the Missouri city, average home price for a 4-bedroom, 2-bath home, and its comparative rank among states peers.
