Arnold Retailers Already Have Back-To-School Sales

The many options for back-to-school shoppers in Arnold makes buying school supplies a breeze for busy parents.

School begins Wednesday, Aug. 17 in the Fox C-6 school district. Arnold shoppers will want to take advantage of the Back to School Sales Tax Holiday, on August 5, 6 and 7, as they make their seasonal purchases of school supplies.

Local retail venues such as Target, 3849 Vogel Rd.; Office Depot, 912 Arnold Commons Dr.; and Walmart, 2201 Michigan Ave. all offer weekly specials on school supplies.

Sale prices traditionally run from Sunday to Saturday, so check the dates on specific offers before heading off for the advertised specials.

According to the website of the Missouri Department of Revenue, the following items are exempt from state sales tax during the designated three-day period:

  • Clothing-any article having a taxable value of $100 or less
  • School supplies-not to exceed $50 per purchase
  • Computer software-taxable value of $350 or less
  • Personal computers-not to exceed $3,500
  • Computer peripheral devices-not to exceed $3,500

According to a Walmart news release, Chief Merchandising Officer Duncan Mac Naughton said, “We know our customers need to stretch their dollars as far as they can. We're making it easier and more affordable for them this back-to-school season with low prices on more items along with our ad match policy and a better shopping experience.”

Walmart said it is helping parents by grouping the back-to-school items in one location inside the store and placing the most commonly needed school items in a center aisle at that section.

Walmart also said it will match competitors’ ads at the register.

About 48 percent of shoppers will spend $250 on school related items this summer, according to a PriceGrabber Back-to-School Shopping survey. Another 25 percent will spend $500 or more. Both statistics are a slight decline from the 2010 survey.

Despite the amount of the back-to-school bill, the Missouri Back to School Sales Tax Holiday, on Aug. 5, 6 and 7 will help lower the bottom line of your store receipt.
