Ashley Furniture Giving Beds to Kids in Need

40 St. Louis-area children received new beds from the furniture retailer.

Ashley Furniture HomeStore wants to help children in the St. Louis area dream.

The furniture retailer created the A Hope To Dream program and delivered new twin-sized memory foam beds to 40 children ages 3-16, from Maryland Heights to Fenton, Barnhart to Vandalia, a news release said. The children also received bed risers, sheets, a pillow and a comforter.

β€œSo often when we make donations we simply talk about making a difference. It is rare that we actually get to watch the difference,” said Michael Phillips, Ashley Furniture HomeStore vice president.

Locally, more than 60 mattress sets have been given to children this year, the news release said.

The retailer said it created the program to fight the problem of children lacking access to a comfortable bed in which to rest, recharge and dream.

St. Louis area families face the hardships of medical expenses, foreclosures, layoffs or disabilities, the news release said. Those difficulties can make it difficult to provide a comfortable bed for sleeping children.

Anyone can nominate a child for consideration to receive a brand new mattress set by picking up an application at an Ashley Furniture HomeStore location or filling one out online at ashleyfurniturehomestore.com.

A portion of each mattress sale at Ashley Furniture HomeStore funds the program. Ashley Furniture HomeStore will begin another round of deliveries to deserving kids in Missouri and Illinois in July.
