Hidden Valley Ski Resort To Open Wednesday Afternoon

Resort managers will place artificial snow, hope cold weather lasts, to begin the ski season this week.

All staffers wanted for Christmas was snow, but the white powder didn't come this year. The past two nights of colder temperatures enabled them, however, to start making their own snow with more confidence that it can be sustained for a while.

Stemming from weather predictions for this week, Hidden Valley's Wildwood-based team members said the plan is to open Wednesday at 1 p.m.

Hidden Valley General Manager Bill Brandes said they are "still shooting to open tomorrow afternoon," although it is "not a final decision."

"As of this morning, we're still trying to get there," he said, taking a quick break from making snow.

The resort has 12 ski trails as well as a snow tubing area. New for this year, group rates for 15 to 50 people are offered for the Polar Plunge tubing area.

This article was updated at 12:55 p.m. on Jan. 3:Β  Hidden Valley General Manager Bill Brandes confirmed, with Eureka-Wildwood Patch, that the resort WILL OPEN Wednesda afternoon as planned. He said they have enough base snow to open and will "go from there." He also said temperatures below freezing, along with low humidity, are key to skiing, boarding and tubing conditions. This afternoon's focus is about grooming the machine-produced snow. Apparently, most ski resorts across the United States have had a difficult time accumulating or keeping enough snow base for this winter's season.
