Should Arnold Leave Jefferson County?

The city seems to be the economic engine for the county but what does it receive for its tax revenue.

There was a light-hearted moment during the Arnold City Council meeting on March 15.

During his report to the council, Arnold Treasurer Dan Kroupa said that Jefferson Countyhad a 5 percent increase in sales tax revenue collected to the beginning of March when compared to the same period a year ago.

Arnold's sales tax revenue increased 12 percent for the same time period, Kroupa said.

"We're a big part of the county," Kroupa said about Arnold. "So if you took Arnold out, the county wouldn't even pull the 5 percent increase."

At that moment Ward 1 Councilman Doris Borgelt introduced a light moment to the meeting.

"Are you thinking about seceding?" she said in reference to the idea of Arnold leaving Jefferson County.

"No, no I'm just saying we in Arnold should be proud of ourselves," Kroupa said. "Because we are part of the economic engine that drives the county.
