Plenty of different offerings are coming up on Thanksgiving and into the holiday season beyond the usual turkey and treats.
Need something fun to do on Thanksgiving besides pigging out and looking for ? Patch has pulled together this list of fun events, plus a few tips on how to get out of the kitchen faster.
Let the Pros Fix Your Turkey: is selling complete turkey dinners starting at $40, or get a 12 to14 pound turkey and all the fixings for $89. starting at $40. Both stores require customers to order in advance and pick up their dinner the day before Thanksgiving—both are closed on Thanksgiving Day.
Eat out for Thanksgiving: The St. Louis Post-Dispatch put together this list of restaurants in the metro area that are serving Thanksgiving Day dinner. Just be sure to call ahead; a reservation may be required.

Thanksgiving Day Train & Bus Dinner Excursion: The rides depart from Kirkwood’s at 1:30pm Thanksgiving Day. Ride a train to Belleville, have a tradition turkey dinner at Fischer's, then tour the Way of Lights at Our Lady of the Snows. Adults $89, children $79. Call 314-752-3148 for more information.
Jog a 5K: Enter or watch a friendly race Thanksgiving morning to work up an appetite. Arnold will have a . Although registration for Arnold's run is closed, people can watch and support their friends or city councilman. Ward 2 Councilman Jeff Fitter said, during the Nov. 17 meeting, that he will run in the event to support local families in need.

People who want to run can join the 3 or 6 mile Kirkwood-Webster Turkey Day Run that starts at the for $20; the 5K Gobble Wobble in Chesterfield at the West County Assembly of God for $25; or the Chesterfield Turkey Trot 5K around the for $25. Both the Kirkwood-Webster and Gobble Wobble will accept registration on race day, but the Turkey Trot requires advance registration online or in person at Fleet Feet in Chesterfield or at City Hall. Watch a Parade: You could catch New York’s Macy’s Day Parade on TV, or head downtown and see the Ameren Missouri Thanksgiving Day Parade in person. The St. Louis parade will start at 8:45am on Thanksgiving Day at the corner of Washington Avenue and Fourth Street, then march down Market to Soldier’s Memorial. You can also catch the local parade on TV, which will be broadcast live by KMOV Channel 4.
Catch a Movie after Dinner: Wehrenberg Theaters and AMC Theaters will be open Turkey Day with shows starting after 11am. Tickets are $5 for kids and $7.25 and up for adults (extra charges apply for the Chesterfield Mega Screen or the Ronnies IMAX).
Add Some Twinkle to Your Holiday: The Way of Lights at Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville, IL opens November 18 and runs to January 1. The light display is open from 5pm to 10pm every night, but indoor activities will be closed on Thanksgiving. The light display is free, but you will receive a plush animal with a $10 donation. The petting zoo is free with a small charge for animal feed and $5 to ride a camel. The petting zoo will be closed on the 24th.
St. Louis County’s Tilles Park Winter Wonderland will open November 23 and run through January 1. The display is open to cars on Sunday through Friday, and open for carriage rides only on Saturdays. Admission is $9 for a family vehicle. You must enter from South bound McKnight Road to reach the display. Open Thanksgiving night.
Skate off Your Dinner: Steinberg Skating Rink in Forest Park will be open from 10am to midnight November 23-26. Admission is $6 and skate rentals are $4. Bring cash, the rink doesn’t take plastic. Call 314-361-0613 for more information.
Visit the Garden: The Missouri Botanical Garden will be showing its annual Gardenland Express train display starting November 23 through January 2, from 9am to 5pm. The display is $5 in addition to regular admission. St. Louis County residents can get into the Garden for free on Wednesday and Saturday morning before noon.
Watch Some Football: Turkey Day just isn’t the same without some pigskin. Watch the Show-Me Bowl High School Football Championships at the Edward Jone’s Dome on November 25-26. There will be four games each day, starting at 9:30 on Friday and noon on Saturday. Tickets are $11.
Or watch the 104 year rivalry between Kirkwood and Webster high schools at the annual Turkey Day Championship. This year’s game is at noon at Kirkwood High. Tickets are $6 and are sold at all Kirkwood elementary, middle schools and the early childhood center.
Have a Laugh: The will be open and hosting local favorites during Thanksgiving Day week. Shows are at 8pm on Thanksgiving, 8pm and 10:30pm Friday, and 7:30pm, 10pm and midnight Saturday night. Tickets range from $10 to $18 plus a two drink minimum (the minimum includes soft drinks). Must be over 18 to attend.
