Save Babies' Lives: Free Help is Available

Crisis Nursery reacts to the death of Aliyah McFarland and offers advice to overwhelmed parents.

Parenting is hard (and sometimes stressful), but child abuse and neglect are preventable.  In the wake of the sudden , the Crisis Nursery staff would like to remind caregivers of children to learn and recognize “triggers” and “trigger events” that could possibly increase their chances of mistreating a child.

There are many “triggers” that predispose an individual to abuse a child, including stress, unhealthy self-esteem, domestic violence, and a lack of parenting skills.  As a responsible and caring parent, guardian,or caregiver it is important to know your reactions to a “trigger event” while a child is in your care—especially if that child’s safety is at-risk.  This very knowledge helps build self-control, prompts you to seek help, and ultimately determines the difference between
loving redirection and abuse.

Remember that being a parent is one of the most joyful experiences, yet it can be challenging at times. There are resources to help when you need an extra hand, therefore, a challenging moment does not turn into a life changing tragedy. Crisis Nursery services, such as crisis counseling and short-term care, are always available to overwhelmed parents who need a break or intervention services. Make the decision early on tosave your baby’s life and keep your kids safe. Contact us 24-hours a day at (314)768-3201 if you need help caring for your children, birth through age 12, or someone to talk to.  We offer respite care to families in the St. Louis Metro area, St. Charles, Wentzville, Lincoln, Warren, Franklin and Jefferson Counties.
