Parenting is hard (and sometimes stressful), but child abuse and neglect are preventable.  In the wake of the sudden , the Crisis Nursery staff would like to remind caregivers of children to learn and recognize “triggers” and “trigger events” that could possibly increase their chances of mistreating a child. 

There are many “triggers” that predispose an individual to abuse a child, including stress, unhealthy self-esteem, domestic violence, and a lack of parenting skills.  As a responsible and caring parent, guardian,or caregiver it is important to know your reactions to a “trigger event” while a child is in your care—especially if that child’s safety is at-risk.  This very knowledge helps build self-control, prompts you to seek help, and ultimately determines the difference between
loving redirection and abuse.

Remember that being a parent is one of the most joyful experiences, yet it can be challenging at times.
