Heroes Welcome!

Local heroes of World War II take an Honor Flight and are welcomed back home!

The flight may have been a little behind schedule, but everyone was anxiously awaiting the arrival of a group of local World War II Veterans returning from their Honor Flight from Washington D.C.

This group along with many from all over the United States converged on Washington D.C for their Honor Flight.  They left early in the morning and had a whirlwind tour of the various memorials in D.C. and then returned around 9 in the evening.

The strains of Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, In the Mood and others could be heard playing in the airport.  When the time came close to welcome the heroes back home, everyone lined up with flags along the aisle for them to travel through.

People were clapping, whooping and whistling with more than a few of the heroes getting lipstick kisses planted on their cheeks. Chaperones pushed wheelchairs and there were very few dry eyes in the place.

A ceremony starting with the Pledge of Allegiance and our National Anthem, awards and pictures of their day and ending with Taps was a moving experience. This was all made possible through a charitable organization called the Honor Flight Network.  http://www.honorflight.org/  Check it out!
