Big Weekend Events

  • 'Star Trek' actor Robert Picardo Saint Louis Science Center, 5050 Oakland Ave., St. Louis, MO., 8 p.m.— Emmy-nominated and 'Star Trek' TV series actor Robert Picardo will discuss his experiences with the popular entertainment franchise in May Hall at the Saint Louis Science Center and  sign autographs on Friday and Saturday. Both signings have a $25 cash only fee. The actor will introduce his two favorite Star Trek: Voyager TV episodes at 10 p.m. in the OMNIMAX Theater.
    • People attending can winan  opportunity have lunch Picardo at lunch on Saturday.

  • Guys' Night Out: Belly of the Beast at Schnucks Cooks, 12332 Manchester Rd, Saint Louis, MO. 6 p.m.—Learn to make braised bacon with bitter greens salad, hanger steak with sweet onion béarnaise, Wisconsin cheddar mac with thyme and shallots, and stout ale float. $45

  • Electronics Recycling Event, at the Fox Service Center at 849 Jeffco Blvd., Arnold MO., 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.—Although the event is not sponsored by the City of Arnold, residents are welcome to bring their unwanted electronics to the event and keep toxic compounds of Arnold's and Jefferson County's land and water.

  • Jefferson County Housing Task Force Foreclosure Prevention and Financial Resource Fair, Quad Cities Senior Center at the Masonic Lodge at 221 Bailey Rd., Crystal City, MO., 8 a.m.—People facing financial hardship, concerned about not being able to make their next mortgage payment, or simply wanting to improve their financial health should attend this free event. Mortgage loan servicers-Bank of America, Chase, Wells Fargo, Fannie Mae, PNC Bank, GMAC Mortgage, CitiMortgage and US Bank-will be there to help home owners. ClearPoint Credit Counseling Solutions, Beyond Housing and United Way will also be present to help people. No registration is required. Free. People attending should bring certain paperwork, click on the event listing above to get more information. If unable to attend, call The Jefferson County Housing Task Force for free counseling at 877-422-9043.
  • Preventing Type 2 Diabetes at St. Anthony's Medical Center, 12700 Southfork Rd, Saint Louis, MO., 1 p.m.— St. Anthony's Medical Center is offering this class for people who are at risk for developing diabetes or who have been told that their blood sugar is a "little high." A registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator will discuss meal-planning and weight loss strategies, exercise guidelines, individualized calorie recommendations, blood sugar assessment and a meal-planning book. Advanced registration required. $20.
  • Kids Night, Summit Church, 1037 New Sugar Creek Rd, Fenton, MO., 5:30 p.m.—Parents who want to have a date night and not pay for a babysitter can drop their 1st- 6th grade-aged kids at a fun and supervised evening at the church from 5:30-8 p.m. The child's parent or guardian must sign child in and out of the event.
  • Rick Stream's Presidential Primary Preview, 800 Maryville Centre Dr, Town and Country, MO., 7 p.m. — Interested in the 2012 Republican Presidential race? Want to learn how Missouri will vote in this election?  Want to better understand how to participate in a caucus? This free evening event will explain Missouri's primary and caucus, analyze the 2012 Election, and have the following guests

  • First Sundays at COCA for Kids, 524 Trinity Ave, St. Louis, MO., 1 p.m.—Children 3 and older explore collage, book art, watercolor and paper maché under the guidance of COCA’s visual arts instructors. $8. Register at the door.

Monday Events (It's not a weekend day, but people might be interested)

  • Recipes for Seniors at Schnucks Cooks, Schnucks Markets, 12332 Manchester Rd, St. Louis, MO. 6 p.m. — Seniors can get new ideas for making healthy, wholesome and delicious meals that can be served fresh or frozen for subsequent meals. Tomato-and-mozzarella stacks with yellow pepper coulis, grilled tangerine-herbed chicken, braised New potatoes with thyme and fruit trifle. $25
