Jefferson County Bow Hunter Sentenced to 7 Years in Jail

A Byrnes Mill man, who killed his friend, pleaded guilty in court.

Jered Winters, 21, of Byrnes Mill pleaded guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter of his friend Ryan Sargeant, 15.

The two men were hunting deer on Nov. 30, 2010, reported the stltoday.com website, when Winters said he joked and pointed his bow at Sargeant.

Winters said his finger accidentally touched the bow's trigger and fired an arrow into Sargeant's face.

Winters pleaded guilty in Jefferson County Circuit Court on Oct. 31, the website says.

The court sentenced Winters to seven years in jail, the maximum sentence, during Wednesday's court session.
