Library 'Food For Fines' Amnesty Set July 29

So far this year, $4,068 in fines have been forgiven and 4,420 cans of food collected in the amnesty program.

The library is again offering amnesty for book fines on Friday July 29 in a continuation of a program that so far this year has resuted in forgiveness of $4,068 in fines and collection of 4,420 cans of food.

The Jefferson County Library offers its popular “Food for Fines” amnesty once a month. Customers with outstanding fines for overdue materials may have their fines erased by donating canned food items. During 2011 the library will forgive up to one dollar in fines for each can of food donated.

On June 24 the library collected 738 canned food items and waived $705 in overdue fines. All the food collected is donated to local food pantries.
