Minimal Storm Damage in Arnold

Despite tornado warning sirens at 11 p.m. on Sunday, Arnold received little damage. About 3,600 Jefferson County homes lost power overnight but only about 50 homes were without power by 6 p.m on Monday.

Ameren Missouri deployed about 350 crews throughout the state to restore power this morning after the strong storms that knocked out power throughout the region late Sunday night.

Some of the crews are form other states, spokesperson Rita Holmes-Bobo said during phone interview on Monday.

About 3,600 people in Jefferson County and about 24,000 homes in St. Louis lost power between 11 p.m. and midnight Sunday, according to the Ameren Missouri website.

A powerful line of storms with 65 mph winds and heavy rain moved through the area during that time, reported the National Weather Service website.

At 6 p.m., only 53 Jefferson County homes and 6,700 St. Louis buildings were without power, the Ameren website reported.

By 4:30 p.m., about 753 homes in Jefferson County and about 7,300 residents in St. Louis County were without power, the website reported. 

Ameren’s website reported that about 1,600 Jefferson County residents and 17,700 homes in St. Louis were without power as of 9 a.m. Monday.

Holmes-Bobo said residents should report any broken utility poles or power lines to 1-800-552-7583 immediately.

“Always assume the lines are energized and remain indoors if the area is wet,” Holmes-Bobo said. 

Elderly residents and people with disabilities should find a neighbor or family member who can help them until power is restored, she said.

Holmes-Bobo was unable to provide when crews can arrive at a damaged site or when they can complete repairs.
