Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for the St. Louis Area

A thunderstorm warning is in effect for St. Charles, St. Louis and Jefferson counties, according to the National Weather Service. The storms are headed east toward St. Louis City where the St. Louis Cardinals are playing in the NLCS.

UPDATE: The severe thunderstorm warning for St. Charles, St. Louis and Jefferson counties has been extended until 6:15 p.m. and also now includes St. Louis City. The tornado warning for St. Charles County has been allowed to expire.

The counties of St. Charles, St. Louis and Jefferson are under a severe thunderstorm warning until 5:45 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. A tornado warning is in effect for north-central St. Charles county until 5:30 p.m.Β 

The storm, which is moving east at about 40 m.p.h, is capable of heavy rains, damaging winds and potential rotation. And it's all headed toward the City of St. Louis, where the St. Louis Cardinals are playing at Busch Stadium.

A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for the counties of St. Louis, St. Charles and Jefferson until 8 p.m.
