St. Louis Ranked 5th Saddest City

Cardinals fans didn't buy the Men's Health report that St. Louis is such a sad city.

Really, Men’s Health Magazine? You think St. Louis is the 5th saddest city in America? Four words: World Series Champions, baby!

That seemed to be the general reaction to the Men’s Health report that St. Louis ranked 95th on a list of 100 American cities in order of happiness. The study combined suicide rates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, unemployment rates from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and antidepressant rates and overall moods from SimplyMap.

But St. Louisans weren’t buying it.

“While St. Louis may not be the happiest city, I guarantee they were this year since they, indeed, WON the world series,” one commentor wrote under the article.

Other commentors gave a digital eye-roll to the author’s reporting.

“Is the author of this article, Christa Sgobba, aware that the St. Louis Cardinals (St. Louis “sad city #5”) actually won the World Series?” wrote a commentor identified only as Blue Quirky.

“Check your facts, Christa,” followed another, Brent7747.

The saddest city was St. Petersburg in Florida, despite their Guinness Book of World Records-certified 768 straight days of sunshine. The happiest city was Honolulu.
