Trade Your Car for Movie Passes

MERS/Goodwill stores are offering a year of free movie tickets at Wehrenberg Theaters for tax-deductible donations of cars, boats, vans, and recreational vehicles—running or not.

It’s a win-win.  in December, and on top of your tax deduction, get a year of free movies at Wehrenberg Theaters.

MERS/Goodwill partnered with the theater chain this month to entice residents to donate cars, trailers, jet skis, recreational vehicles, boats—as Roni Vetter, director of the car donation program, put it, “anything with a title or wheels.”

Donors get one year’s worth of weekday movie passes at the  or in the St. Louis metro area, Springfield, Columbia and Jefferson City to use in 2012.

Vehicle donations are getting major bang for their buck this year, something Vetter attributes to the economy. As household budgets shrink, families hold onto their cars longer, leaving fewer for used car lots.

So when MERS/Goodwill puts a donated vehicle up for auction, car dealerships are “really grabbing them up and paying top dollar,” Vetter said.

“The revenue we receive from the sale of the donated vehicles goes directly into our programs for employment training and job placement,” Vetter said. “It’s a great help, especially during this time of year when people want to give something. What a great way to give.”

Just remember: When you donate, ask for your Wehrenberg Theater movie passes. To get started, visit mersgoodwill.org or call 314-241-3464.

MERS/Goodwill serves more than 23,000 people with economic or disability barriers to employment annually through 61 bistate locations.
