What Are You Giving Up for Lent?

Chocolate? Facebook? What are you giving up for this religious time?

If you've logged on to Patch lately, you might have noticed our . It's our way to help anyone giving up meat for Lent find a place for a tasty meal and to support communities.

But it got us thinking: What besides meat are you giving up for Lent? And how is it going? It's tough going without something you are used to. If you are sacrificing a favorite food or activity for this period of religious observance, tell us about it. We'd love to know.

I think soda would be the hardest thing for me to give up. I drink way too much Dr. Pepper. I didn't choose to give anything up this year, though. Lent wasn't a huge part of my United Methodist upbringing...

I abstain from meat on Fridays and am reading from my bible each day.

How about not eat meat at all. It is not good for you. Study up on it. You do not need to give up anything. Just do Gods will and be a servant for Christ.

Funny you mentioned Soda, Lindsay. That's what I'm giving up. I actually started a day late so I'll at least take it past Easter. Not a bad thing to do anyway.

I gave up soda as well. I've been trying to cut back on it for awhile, so I'm hoping to continue even after Lent!

I have a few friends giving up Starbucks. A few years ago, I gave up TV and read a lot of books I had purchased throughout the years. This year I want to volunteer an hour a week to a good cause.

No possible way I could give up Starbucks. Where would I work?

Looks like we are all giving up soda, I have done the same and not missing it at all. I will continue past Easter.

I gave up extra marital affairs. No stepping out on my wife until Easter. I got some trim lined up for that night though!

I gave up French fries at the beginning of 2012. Still going strong!
