JIM FOX RECALLS MAXVILLE IN THE 1930-1950's

The Arnold Historical Society will hold their October 3 meeting  at St. Mark's UCC Church, 1861 MO State Rd. (Parking on Ridgeway).  Jim Fox, 90 and writer for the Suburban Journals, will reminisce about visiting Uncle Charles Fox on Pear Tree Lane off Lonedell.  Jim will reveal antics he did from 1930-1950 when there were only farmhouses out in Maxville.  Many St. Louis City folks came to the area around the Meramec River to enjoy the beauty of the Meramec.

In 1886 this land belonged to Henry and Catherine Becker. They willed the 115 acres to their hired hand, John Wilde, who had worked the land for 36 years.  John's half-brother, Karl Wilde aka Charles Becker, wanted half the land and John divided the land equally. But Karl sold the land to Charles  and Mabel Fox.

It was Uncle Charles Fox who sold his land in the 1950s to the Fox School District so he could see his name in big letters on the building.
