South County Students Band Together for Gapsch Family

Students in the Seckman School District helped in raising more than $3,800 for the family, who were the victims of a house fire last week.

Students in school districts in South County and Jefferson County are organizing their own fundraising efforts for the Gapsch family, and have already raised more than $3,800.

Last week, 79-year-old Georgetta, 38-year-old Terry and 11-year-old Maci Gapsch died following a house fire. Georgetta's son, Mehlville Fire Protection District firefighter Mike Gapsch, was among the first responders to the scene. 13-year-old Sperreng Middle School student Mia Gapsch is the sole survivor of the fire.

While the majority of fundraising efforts are in the Lindbergh School District, where the girls attended Sperreng Middle School, Seckman Middle School students have jumped to support the Gapsch family. Last week they paid to bring iPods to school for the day, and raised more than $850, according to the Lindbergh School District.
