Jean Huelsing Helps Individuals Lose more than 50,000 Pounds over 10 Years

Founder and CEO of the Living Well Foundation continues the fight against childhood obesity

ST. LOUIS (April 16, 2013) – Jean Huelsing, founder of the Living Well Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating and empowering people to lead healthy, happy and productive lives, has helped individuals lose more than 50,000 pounds over a 10 year period. Living Well Foundation is anchored by its flagship program, Camp Jump Start, a healthy lifestyle camp for young people aimed at reversing and preventing childhood obesity.  The camp is officially recommended by The National Institute of Child Health and Washington University School of Medicine.

“Our mission as an organization is to educate young people and enable them to live healthier lives,” said Jean Huelsing, founder of Camp Jump Start and CEO of Living Well Foundation. “Childhood obesity is a national concern, and it’s our mission to reverse the trend. As we take a step back and realize we’ve helped people lose a total of 50,000 pounds, we’re very proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish.”

Camp Jump Start uses programs centered on nutrition education, physical activity, and counseling to not only help kids lose weight, but teach them how to live healthy lifestyles and be confident in themselves. With licensed health professionals designing the programs and teaching on-site, the camp’s initiatives are holistic, addressing the individual needs of each child.

Childhood obesity has been a growing issue over the last two decades, and now ranks among the top pediatric health concerns in the nation. Last year alone, 40 children arrived at Camp Jump Start with Type 2 Diabetes, and by the end of the session, 17 left with no symptoms, and the remaining 23 showed significant signs of improvement.

“We started this camp 10 years ago when the mother of a young man with Type 2 Diabetes asked for our help in treating her son,” continued Huelsing. “After taking part in the program, the young man had lost 20 percent of his body weight.  It’s these wonderful success stories that keep us going.  It feels great to know that we’re making a real difference in the community.”
