State Rep. John McCaherty Asks Motorists to Slow Down

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – A collision around the Ridgewood Middle School area in Arnold occurred between a turning car and an oncoming motorist on Thursday, resulting in a fatality. State Rep. John McCaherty is urging motorists to proceed with caution when driving in this area.

“This is a terrible tragedy and my heart goes out to the victims’ families,” said McCaherty. “I have asked state and local law enforcement officials to monitor this area more closely as we will try to prevent accidents like this from occurring.”

MoDOT has been studying this issue and are on their final stages of their comprehensive analysis. They have come up with immediate and long term remedies to help transform this area into a much safer traffic way for citizens while also working with parents to ensure that the student’s safety is a top priority.

Immediate plans will be the installation of new School Zone signs facing both directions of Route 141, the installation of an interactive speed limit trailer and the trimming of trees to increase the visibility of the motorists exiting the school.

As funding becomes available, long term plans include the installation of interactive school zone/speed limit flashing signs that can be activated during school hours. MoDOT will also complete their analysis of adding cross overs along Route 141 corridor. Though funding is not available for these types of improvements at this time, MoDOT and Rep. McCaherty will be working with the budget committee to try to acquire the funds needed and push this project to the forefront.

“I have spoken with the Budget Chairman and am working with MoDOT officials in earmarking funds for this project so that we can improve safety along this stretch of road for both the near and immediate future,” McCaherty added.
