Firefighters Awarded for Christmas Eve Rescue

Several Rock Community firefighters were awarded for heroic actions in the line of duty.

Firefighers from the Rock Community fire department were given Class IV Unit Citation Awards for the rescue of an elderly man trapped in a burning home last Christmas Eve.

The awards were given on October 21 to Captains Daniel Osborne, Captain Clay Vandiver, Acting Captain Kenny Steiger, Firefighter’s Kevin Lewis, Doug Ott, Tyler McBroom, Alan McClain, Matthew Ham and Kevin Steinmeyer.

Captain Osborne, Firefighter Lewis and Firefighter Ott were also awarded Class III Bronze Medal of Valor for their outstanding efforts in the rescue.

The ceremony was conducted at the Kirkwood Community center and was presented by the Greater St. Louis area of Fire Chiefs Association.

At the ceremony, retired Rock Community Fire Chief Matthew Mayer received a Fire Chief’s Service Award for his untiring efforts in service to the community.
