Imperial Man Charged With First-Degree Burglary, Resisting Arrest

A 19-year-old Imperial man is facing felony charges in connection with an Imperial home burglary, which was foiled by the homeowner.

Brendan Loyd, of the 5200 block of Seckman Springs, recently was charged with first-degree burglary and resisting arrest by the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. The incident happened on Jan. 27, 2012.

Loyd was allegedly in the process of breaking into a home in the 5200 block of Benck Road when the victim came home, discovered him inside and called police, according to court documents. Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies arrived, and Loyd fled from them on foot. The deputies found him hiding in bushes.

Loyd told officers he entered the home by breaking a window with a hammer.

First-degree burglary is a class B felony and carries with it a punishment of between five and 15 years in state prison. Resisting arrest is a class D felony punishable by up to one year in jail or one to four years in state prison and/or up to a $5,000 fine.
