Why You Shouldn't Leave an Unlocked Vehicle in an Open Garage

Folks in Imperial learned this lesson the hard way.

The following information was reported by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.

Windmill Estates Drive, Imperial

A motorcycle, lottery tickets, electronics and other items were stolen from unlocked vehicles in an open garage sometime between 2-3 a.m. Apr. 26 at a home on Windmill Estates Drive, Imperial.

Missing were a blue and white boys motorcycle, battery powered grease gun, miscellaneous lottery tickets, Apple MP3 player, Apex airflow computer, Apex fuel control computer, Sony car stereo, pair of Beats headphones, pair of Apple headphones and iPhone case. The value of the missing items was set at $2,805.

According to police, the homeowner said he heard a noise at approximately 2-3 a.m. but believed it was due to the wind. The next morning, he noticed the motorcycle was missing, the deputy's report stated.

The homeowner also said the garage door was broken and was open during the night. The motorcycle had been leaning against the inside wall of the garage. The other missing items were taken from his work truck and from his wife and son's vehicles, all of which were unlocked.
