Learn About Police Work at the Jefferson County Sheriff Citizens Academy
The 12-week program is designed to create a better understanding between residents and the sheriff's department.
Jefferson County residents will have an opportunity to learn about police work through a series of "Sheriff's Citizens Academy" classes.
The 12-week program will be held on Tuesdays from 7 to 10 p.m. beginning March 5. Classes will be held at the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department's Hillsboro location at 400 First St.
Participants who complete the course will receive a certificate of completion from the department. Class size will be limited to 30 students. This year's Citizens Academy will be the 28th class since the inception of the program.

The purpose of the “Sheriff’s Citizens Academy” is to increase understanding between citizens and the Sheriff’s Office through education, according to Jefferson County Sheriff Oliver "Glenn" Boyer.
Course topics include different aspects of police work, ranging from administrative functions, narcotics, investigations, tactical teams, firearms, jail functions, traffic & road patrol and K-9.

There is no cost to attend the academy, however, pre-registration is required.
