Man Who Tried to Stop Burglar in Barnhart Assaulted

The following information was supplied by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department. Arrests or charges mentioned in this report do not indicate convictions.

Sunday, Nov. 18 

  • A bed set, a marble nightstand, a table, a TV, and a picture frame were stolen from a home on Cherrybrook Drive in Arnold. The items were valued at $4470. A neighbor told police he/she had seen the suspect in the area on Nov. 17, but did not see him/her enter the home.
  • In the early morning hours, deputies responded to Marriot Lane in Barnhart in reference an assault. The man who called police had attempted to stop another man from burglarizing his neighbor’s home and was assaulted in the process. An orbital sander, a Rigid palm sander, a Makita circular saw and a DeWalt set including a trim saw, Sawzall, flashlight, two batteries and charger were stolen from a home on Marriot Lane in Barnhart. The items were valued at $800. The owner of the home burglarized heard the disturbance in his garage, but told police he worked long hours and had taken a sleeping pill so he slept through all that had happened. The burglar entered the attached garage through an opened rear garage door in which a boat was protruding. 

Saturday, Nov. 17

  • A Garmin GPS, a Ryobi 4 Cycle gas leaf blower, a Poulan gas leaf blower, a Homelite power washer, a battery charger and two Harley Davidson riding rain gear outfits were stolen from a garage on Darkmoor Lane in Imperial. The items were valued at $1,210. Entry was gained to the garage through a garage remote in an unlocked vehicle.   
  • Numerous batteries, hand tools and DJ equipment, two Razor scooters, Fluke electric work tools and a Dell laptop were stolen from a garage on Oakglen Street in Imperial. The victim told police someone gained entry to his truck and retrieved his garage door opener to open the door.

Friday, Nov. 16

  • Eight RV campers had multiple windows damaged at Custom RV and Boat Storage on Highway 61/67 in Imperial. The campers were rummaged through and one had under two jackets and two flashlights removed. 

Thursday, Nov. 15

Officers responded to Lakewood Terrace in Imperial for a report of a burglary. The victim told police she noted that several items had been moved in her apartment, but that nothing had been taken.

Monday, Nov. 12

Four large Marine batteries valued at $100 were stolen from horse trailers parked on the West Outer Road in Imperial. There was also damage to wiring on three trailers.
