Police Find Mobile Meth Lab After Man's Van Runs Off 1-55 and Into Creek

The man already was wanted in St. Louis County on a $25,000 cash-only bond for felony drug distribution and manufacturing, according to police.

A 38-year-old Columbia man was recently arrested for drug possession after police discovered his van served as a mobile methamphetamine lab. According to Arnold Police, the lab was discovered after the man had an accident along I-55 near Richardson Road.

At about 6:20 a.m. June 25, the man was driving a 1997 Dodge Caravan on southbound I-55, and the van ran off the road, down an embankment and came to rest in a nearby creek, according to the report.

During the investigation, police found a backpack filled with pseudoephedrine and other items to make meth, Arnold Police Maj. Nick McBroom said.

The Jefferson County Municipal Enforcement Group Drug Task Force was called to the scene to dispose of the meth lab and to take over the investigation, the report said.
