“We want people to see it (the steel), touch it and ponder,” Boone said.

The Arnold Jaycees paid for shipping the artifact from New York to Arnold, and the River Trails Boy Scouts have donated a flagpole, Boone said.

She said, Arnold Planning and Zoning Commissioner Todd Teuscher volunteered his skills to create an emotionally moving memorial to the people who died on that day.

Ward 3 Councilman Phil Amato asked Boone if she and members of the memorial commission would continue to ask for donations after City Council released the requested funds.

Boone said, yes, she and the committee would request donations from local business, organizations and citizen.

The donations could be used to reimburse the parks’ general fund.

The council approved the $4,000 memorial expense in a 7-0 vote. Ward 2 Councilman Bill Moritz was excused from the meeting.
