Arnold City Council Remembers Losses

Council members Phil Amato and Sandra Kownacki asked for a minute of silence in tribute to the deaths of Jim Edwards, children of Arnold Police Department officers, and for Apple Founder Steve Jobs.

Arnold Ward 3 Councilman Phil Amato was succinct in the last minutes of the Arnold City Council meeting at City Hall, at 2101 Jeffco Blvd., on Thursday night.

"It's been a difficult year," Amato said to the council.

Ward 2 Councilman Jim Edwards died of stroke complications on Aug. 25, and the children of two Arnold police officers also died earlier this year, Amato said.

Ward 4 Councilman Sandra Kownacki asked council members to remember Apple founder and CEO Steve Jobs.

"We have lost a visionary and a genius," Kownacki said.

Kownacki said she had no intention of mentioning the Silicon Valley, CA businessman during the meeting. But she realized all the council members use iPads to review municipal documents, emails and city council information packets.

City Hall issues iPads to city council members to save money on paper, ink, copier repair costs and labor. Documents are sent through a scanner, converted into an electronic document and then emailed to eight council members.

The council’s information packet for Thursday’s meeting was 60 pages. There are eight council members, and the council meets as a group three times per month.
