Arnold Looking for Commissioners

Mayor Ron Counts is looking for volunteers to serve on the city's boards and commissions.

Arnold Mayor Ron Counts is looking for a few good men and women to serve on the city’s various committees.

Counts says the city is looking for a volunteers to serve on the city’s Board of Adjustment, Board of Appeals and the Aging and Disabilities Commission.

It can be difficult finding volunteers to fill vacant committee seats, Counts said. That’s unfortunate, because there are a variety of opportunities to serve the city, he said.

In addition to the three boards with vacancies, other opportunities to volunteer within the city include the Economic Development Commission, the Park and Open Space Advisory Board, the Personnel Board of Review, the Planning Commission, the Police Personnel Board, the Recreation and Fitness Advisory Board and the Tourism Commission.

“I think there is an opportunity to get involved in a little bit of everything,” Counts said.

Requirements and length of terms vary, depending on the board.

“Some of these don’t meet unless there is an issue that comes up,” Counts said. “The Board of Adjustment might meet once a year. They might meet once a month, it depends on what comes up.”

All appointments are made by the mayor with the consent of the city council. Counts asks volunteers to submit a resume for his review and that of the city council.  Applications can be picked up at City Hall.
