Arnold Might Need to Pay for New Sewer Lines for A-B Building Expansion

InBev's Anheuser-Busch's $70 million building expansion in Arnold, is the company's largest project in the world, a councilman says.

The City of Arnold needs to determine whether to upgrade sewer lines to keep pace with the $70 million expansion by one of the city’s biggest consumers of water, Metal Container Corp., a subsidiary of publicly-held company Inbev Anhuser-Busch.

The company makes metal cans for its drink products and earlier this year announced .

The City Council voted 7-1 to hire Kozeny-Wagner to design the system that will research whether to replace the current 8–inch lines that serve the InBev Anheuser-Busch subsidiary.

The project's design phase, which includes research, will cost $42,000 said Arnold's Public Works Director Bryson Baker. The actual cost of replacing the older lines will be known after completing the design phase.

“Are they (Metal Container) contributing to this?” asked Ward 2 Councilman Michelle Hohmeier in reference to the project.

The city agreed to pay for the sewer project while discussing the plant's expansion with the Metal Container, Baker said.

Hohmeier cast the no vote opposing the sewer project.

City Administrator Matt Unrein said a previous city council agreed to increase the flow lines at Metal Container Corp. “An upgrade was inevitable,” he said.

Another difficulty in determining cost, Unrein said, is that the sewer lines run under railroad tracks.

Ward 3 Councilman Phil Amato said, "This expansion is the largest AB expansion in the whole world.“

"That one place (Metal Container Corportation) buys 10 percent of all the water that comes into this community,” Amato said. “That’s a lot of water folks.”

The council met at , 2101 Jeffco Blvd, on Thursday June 7.
