Donations Needed to Perfect Arnold's 9/11 Memorial

Boy Scouts and Jaycees have paid for shipping and flag pole costs, and volunteers are working to build the memorial.

About $2,000 in donations are needed to complete Arnold’s 9/11 Memorial.

Parks Director Susie Boone, who oversees the memorial’s construction at the Arnold Recreation Center at 1695 Missouri State Rd., said the money is needed to provide electricity and plants at the memorial.

Crews began construction on the memorial earlier this week, Boone said at Wednesday's Arnold Tourism Commission meeting at City Hall, at 2101 Jeffco Blvd.

In July, Arnold’s City Council announced that the city would receive a portion of the World Trade Center buildings destroyed on Sept. 11, 2001 when terrorists flew two 767 airplanes into the two New York City office buildings.

“The artifact is paid for,” Boone said to tourism commission members.

The Arnold Jaycees paid for shipping the artifact, and the River Trails Boy Scouts have donated a flagpole, Boone said.

Additional donations are needed to light the 9/11 memorial and improve its appearance, Boone said.

“We want people to see it, touch it and ponder,” Boone said.

The memorial will be unveiled at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 11.
