Emergency Beacons to be Distributed at Arnold Recreation Center

Members of Arnold's Aging and Disabilities Commission will distribute flashing light beacons, used to call for medical help, at the Arnold Recreation Center on April 29.

Arnold residents who want an emergency flashing light beacon, for their homes, can find them at the Arnold Recreation Center, 1695 Missouri State Road, at 9:30 a.m. on April 29.

The city's Aging and Disabilities Commission will also distribute the beacons on May 13 and 27 at the recreation center, Arnold's Director of Administration Greg Hall said during a council meeting at City Hall, 2101 Jeffco Blvd., on Thursday night.

The beacons convert a traditional porch light into a flashing light. The light can alert emergency personnel to which residents’ homes need medical help, and it can alert neighbors if an elderly resident has an emergency.

The beacons cost about $12 and consist of a light bulb adapter and a three-position switch.

Commission Chairman Bill Knitting, in an Aging and Disabilities meeting at City Hall on Thursday afternoon, said area churches were interested in becoming beacon distribution centers.

The commission would find donations, order the beacons and deliver them to the distribution centers.

The churches would store the beacons and distribute them to people as needed.
