'Facebook Law' Revised in Missouri Senate Committee

State senators have limited the scope of a law that prohibits Missouri teachers from using Internet sites to keep in contact with students and graduates.

Missouri state senators are limiting the scope of the Amy Hestir Student Protection Act that prohibits teachers from using the Internet to contact students.

The law's sponsor Jane Cunningham (R-Chesterfield) wrote the law to protect students from possible improper relationships with teachers.

The Senate Education Committee unanimously amended the law and limited its scope, reported the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

A circuit court judge blocked the law because it hampered teachers' First Amendment Rights, the Post-Dispatch reported.
