Jefferson County Councilman Proposes a Domestic Animal Board

Councilman Groeteke wants to propose a three-person board, during Tuesday's council meeting, to improve animal control operations in unincorporated Jefferson County.

Jefferson County Councilman Charles Groeteke (District 4) plans to introduce a bill to create a three-person domestic animal board to improve the Jefferson County Animal Shelter and the county’s animal control operations in unincorporated Jefferson County.

Groeteke's bill will be introduced to the county council at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Hillsboro, a news release stated.

The board will gather information from Jefferson county residents and provide recommendations to the council on animal control and care issues.

The current proposal will select board members from applicants from the following three districts:

  • District “A”: Arnold, Rock Township, Imperial and Windsor
  • District “B” High Ridge, Meramec, Central and Big River
  • District “C”: Joachim, Riverview, Plattin and Valle

The county executive Ken Waller, will present the board candidates to the county council for approval, the news release stated.

Although the council will not vote on the bill until Jan. 23, voters are needed at Tuesday’s meeting to support Groeteke’s bill, the news release stated.
