MoDOT to Discuss Plan to save $512 million

Local meetings to explain cuts in staff, facilities and equipment.

Missouri Department of Transportation will hold community briefings in Jefferson County and the  St. Louis area this week to explain a plan to reduce staff, facilities and equipment.

The actions will save $512 million that will be used for vital road and bridge projects, MoDOT said in a news release.

MoDOT Director Kevin Keith presented the plan, called a Bolder Five-Year Direction, to the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission. The plan will  cut 1,200 employees, close 135 facilities—in Joplin, Macon and Willow Springs—and sell more than 740 pieces of equipment.
