Personal Code of Conduct for Arnold City Council To Be Discussed

In light of recent bickering among city councilmembers, Mayor Ron Counts has proposed the council consider a personal code of conduct at its May work session.

Arnold Mayor Ron Counts has proposed that the city council develop a "personal code of conduct" for councilmembers.

At last week's meeting, Counts said one of the biggest concerns residents expressed while he was on the campaign trail for mayor was cohesion among the mayor and councilmembers.

"There's no doubt there have been issues," he said. "I'm proposing a personal code of conduct to encourage public confidence and the integrity of our city."

Counts said each member of the council would be required to sign the code, and it would be backed by an ordinance. It will be on the agenda for May 9 work session.

Also at the meeting, Counts welcomed the newly elected councilmembers: Jason Fullbright, Ward 1; Mary Elizabeth Coleman, Ward 2; Phil Amato, Ward 3; and Butch Cooley, Ward 4.

Counts also thanked former councilmembers Doris Borgelt, Ward 1, and Sandra Kownacki, Ward 4, for their time and service on the council. Counts defeated Borgelt in the mayor's race.

In other business, Amato was selected as mayor pro tem. He will serve as mayor in Counts' absence.
